Coming Around Once more is the 13th studio album past the American vocalizer-songwriter Carly Simon, released by Arista Records, on April 13, 1987.
It is the outset of many albums Simon recorded for Arista. The title track, along with "Itsy Bitsy Spider", was written for and featured in the 1986 motion picture Heartburn. It peaked at No. 18 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Simon's twelfth Top forty hit in the United States. Additionally, it was a Top x hit in the Uk. The album itself reached No. 25 in both the Usa and the United kingdom. It was certified Silver by the BPI in September 1987, and Platinum by the RIAA in early 1988.[2] It has since sold nearly two million copies in the US.
Shortly after the anthology'south release, a alive outdoor concert too entitled Carly Simon – Coming Around Again was recorded in June 1987 on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts for HBO, and later released on video and DVD every bit Live From Martha'due south Vineyard.[3] On a pier in front end of an invited audience, Simon and her ring performed 8 of the album'due south xi songs, along with some of her greatest hits. The concert was besides released as a live album in 1988 entitled Greatest Hits Live.
On October 27, 2017, Hot Shot Records released a 30th Anniversary deluxe edition of the album. The two disc set includes six bonus tracks, including a 12" extended remix of the single "Give Me All Night", and the Oscar winning "Let the River Run", along with a second disc consisting of Simon's aforementioned Greatest Hits Live album, retitled for this set as Carly in Concert – Coming Around Again. An in-depth interview with Simon is also included in the albums booklet.[iv]
Critical reception [edit]
Writing for Rolling Stone, Rob Hoerburger gave a positive review of the anthology and wrote, "Coming Around Once again is a stiff reminder of how refreshing a diversion Carly Simon tin can exist".[5]
People was also positive, "Simon remains, even later on all this emotional turmoil, peradventure the most interesting of women pop singers. This album, proves she is still captivating."[6]
Stephen Holden, writing for The New York Times, stated, "Coming Around Again, the latest and one of the strongest capacity in a growing catalogue, embodies everything that the 41-year-old singer-songwriter does best. Of all the confessional vocaliser-songwriters who emerged out of the lx's counterculture to confide their personal feelings in recorded popular song cycles, she has been i of only a handful to sustain a major label recording career of such duration. And of that handful, she has stayed the closest to the personal confessional fashion."[7]
